AMCCO gathering

YAY~!!! Was just saying in one of my previous post that I wasn't able to make it to the CO gathering held during CNY...turned out that my sis was invited too as she's considered as my senior too la...and it was confirmed that Mr Lim and Ms Tai will be going too...so why would I wanna turn down such an invitation..? Anyway...my sis told mum about it already...so..we're both gonna skip the reunion lunch with my uncles and attend CO gathering instead...well...do hope I'm able to meet my juniors that I still know...better still my own batch of friends ^^ Lucky sis and her friend's going too...at least if there's no one there that I know...at least I still have them...phew~~ Moven Peak on 28th of Jan...HERE I COME!!!! =D

Complement System

Complement: refers to the ability of these proteins to complement or augment the effects of other components of the immune system, such as antibody. It is an important component of out innate host defense.

3 main effects of complement:
1. Lysis of cells such as bacteria, allografts and tumor cells
2. Opsonisation, which is enhancement of phagocytosis
3. Generation of mediators that participate in inflammation and attract neutrophils

-Several complement components are proenzymes, which must be cleaved to form active enzymes.
-Activation of complement can occur via one of the three pathways: the classic pathway, the lectin pathway and the alternative pathway.
-The lectin and the alternative pathways are more important the first time we are infected by microorganism because the antibody required to trigger the classic pathway is not present. All three pathways lead to the production of C3b, the central molecule of the complement cascade.
-Presence of C3b on the surface of a microbe marks it as foreign and targets it for destruction.
-Functions of C3b: a) combines with other complement components to generate C5 convertase, the enzyme leading to the production of membrane attack complex b) opsonizes bacteria.


Classic pathway:
-antigen-antibody complex activate C1 to form a protease, which cleaves C2 and C4 to form a C4b,2b complex.
-C4b, 2b complex which is a C3 convertase cleaves C3 into two fragments, C3a and C3b
-C3a is an anaphylatoxin, while C3b forms a complex with C4b, 2b complex and produce C5 convertase (C4b, 2b, 3b)
-C5 convertase cleaves C5 to form C5a and C5b.
-C5a is an anaphylatoxin, while C5b binds to C6 and C7 to form a complex that interacts with C8 and C9 to produce the membrane attack complex (C5b, 6, 7, 8, 9) which causes cytolysis

Lectin pathway:
-mannan-binding lectin (MBL), also known as mannose-binding protein binds to the surface of microbes bearing mannan
-this activates proteases associated with MBL that cleave C2 and C4 components of complement and activate the classic pathway

Alternative pathway:
-many unrelated cell surface substances (bacterial lipopolysaccharides, fungal cell walls and viral envelopes) can initiate the process by binding to C3 (H2O) and factor B
-this complex is cleaved by a protease, factor D to produce C3b, Bb which acts as a C3 convertase to generate more C3b


Biologic effects of complement:
1. Opsonization - presence of C3b
2. Chemotaxis - C5a and C5, 6, 7 complex attract neutrophils while C5a also enhances adhesion of neutrophils to endothelium
3. Anaphylatoxin - C3a, C4a and C5a cause degranulation of mast cells with release of mediators, such as histamine, leading to increase in vascular permeability and smooth muscle contraction (bronchospasm)
4. Cytolysis - C5b, 6, 7, 8, 9 complex (membrane attack complex) leads to killing or lysis of many types of cells such as erythrocytes, bacteria and tumor cells, results in disruption of the membrane and entry of water and electrolytes into the cell
5. Enhancement of antibody production - binding of c3b to its receptors on the surface of activated B cells greatly enhances antibody production.

Er...is this a bad or good thing? I'm getting thinner!!! Healthy thin le...I'm still consuming food as usual with the normal value of nutrients...Unexpectedly...my fats just disappear...in just few days...didn't notice it myself too until my sis told me so...LOL..oh well...maybe like my sis said...lots of energy is used up to heal my wounds from my terrible fall....hehehehe....but then...hope my parents didn't notice my wounds + how thin I've got the next Sat I'm going back to Ipoh...else they'll stuff me till I'm bloated up again...NO WAY~~!!!! blerkzzz~~

Happy or sad...?

I'm not at ease at all now...after I've found out that he has a gf now already...and turns out it's his ex gf many years back when he broke up with her after he found out that he had feelings for me...I wonder what happened between them...I'm so blurrrrr~~~ Hm...somehow wondering myself whether I should feel relieved now that he finally found someone instead of still waiting for me to accept him after soooo many years..?? Or should I feel sad as I'm starting to have feelings for him...? Sigh...its just that the time ain't right yet...not now...not yet..not when I'm focusing my life on my studies now...just cant afford to get myself involved..no matter whether he can understand why I don't do so even though I'm yearning for someone to be always beside me...besides my own family...Zoo V's right..I'm soooo unsure about what I really want.....

I just got this message from one of my CO junior...the 1st part aint that interesting...lol...coz alot of my juniors dont really know me already...and my own batch also I don't think all of them going...which's no fun...but the last part where probably Ms Tai and Mr Lim are going...THAT really caught my eye...aww......how I wish I can attend....but tooo bad..I think I'm having the usual reunion dinner with my relatives of my dad's side...*sobz* =(

Girls....

Okayyy...my previous post was on the GUYS...now the GIRLS...oh well...somehow I realised that not only the guys are difficult mammals to understand...even some of the girls...its just SOME of them...not all...at least most of my close friends aren't like that...and..what made me think so..?? Well...I knew a few of my AMC school mates are studying here in UCSI here too after I've came here for some time...but different course as me...but somehow we didn't get to meet each other at all due to different courses, different classes and etc...but now starting of 2nd semester...and when I've to take my LAN moral studies...I'm no more facing my medic coursemates ONLY for the whole semester..and that gave me the feeling that I'm FINALLY in a uni where there're more students out there besides us medic students...and so....I got to be taking moral studies together with two of my schoolmates who're taking up food science la...and oh well....they just act as if they don't know me at all...oh riiightttt....I'm INVISIBLE~~ One of them only can see Mang Gor...called for him...when even he thought she's calling me coz her voice's darn soft when we're in the auditorium....and she practically ignored my existence while asking him whether he wants to photocopy the moral textbook right in front of me...cool~~~ Really...some girls are just so difficult to understand...I haven't done anything to her to receive such treatment...but then...as what my roommate said...one of the reason is either she thought that me and Mang Gor are together and somehow she's jealous about that..or.....hmm...I seriously don't know what other reason could she possibly have in mind....weird weird weird people just seemed to exist around me...........

Xmas and New Year holidays

Its been a time since last I've posted a blog...well....had spent two weeks back in Ipoh for Christmas and New Year holiday...Hallelujah to Year 2009~~!!! Lots of things happen back then...mostly happy though...1st thing is that me and Ern met up for the last time before she leaves for USA...and FINALLY we've got to watch a movie together..and spent the whole afternoon together hanging out at Jusco window shopping and eating at KFC ^^ Then come to Xmas where me and my family spent a night at Bukit Merah Laketown Resort...cool place.....have forgotten how it does look like since the last time I went during my form 5 prefect camp... Finally...on 31st of Dec...dear Ern boarded the 11.45pm flight and off she went to USA...a country that's alot more thousand miles away...but lucky for the high-tech stuffs now..we're able to keep in touch through emails =) And 1st of Jan of 2009...we whole family went on a trip also...this time to Teluk Batik though..together with my mum's insurance agency...which includes my foster mum who's also my mum's boss...I get to go swimming after so many donkey years not wearing my swimsuit...hehehe...got to work off the fats =p Then...4th of Jan...came back to KL with sis =( But then last Saturday...had a happy time meeting up with VeeShin and Zhu Whee....chatted a while at McD in Midvalley...then went off to play pool (not exactly play..just walked in...lol)...then went off to the arcade where the guys played while I watched...Although its a short time coz apparently I cant dump my sis alone...but really appreciate it...as Zoo V's now studying in INTI, Nilai...near to KL too ^^ But somehow...my dear sis got the idea that Zoo V's my bf...LOL

Guys...

Guys...are such difficult people to understand..although I know to guys girls are difficult human beings to be understood...but seriously...I've known a few friends of mine...who would rather suddenly break any form of contact with you...without telling you any reason...and when finally you knew the reason from a third party...which's that he's got a gf!! How's that..? I mean...like one guy friend of mine who I've known almost my whole life ever since I was in Standard 3 where we had tuition together...seeing each other 2 days per week...way until form 6 and we're still that good friends..and suddenly...when I was so needing of a friend to confine into after the terrible car accident...he just ignored my calls and sms-es...and after asking a few times for the reason he's treating me like this...he finally tells me to buzz off his life coz he's got a gf...just when our relationship is starting to get closer...haiz~~ Now I've another friend of this...of which I known during my years in Chinese Orchestra...knew since I was in form 2...same case...but at least he's still willing to fetch me home after work whenever I don't have any transport to get home...but...guess I better keep away from him already...just saw from his friendster pictures that he's got a gf now...when he's always denying about it...saying that he'll not get involved in any relationships now...not till he's having any better prospects in both his work and studies...anyway...still I better not get involved in stuffs like this anymore.....

Seriously..why are guys giving the girls such a hard time....really cant understand what's going on in their mind...

Dear Ernie, thanks alot for taking the pics and uploading them!! =) I did bring my camera along that day...but guess I forgotten about it lying in my bag =p ANYWAY...that's not the main point...the main point is...I'm going back Ipoh this Saturday and I'm certainly dragging you out of your house and we must go crazy-ing before you leave...I can't go out everyday also btw...just ONE day will do...where we go play bowling (YIKES! Now you mentioned it I'm starting to itch to play it...its a looonnngggg time since I last played it...) and also most certainly we're going for a movie...no matter what movie...as long as its nice....coz I really don't know why we can end up not going for any movies together for the 13years we've known each other...I really don't understand why...NOT EVEN ONCE!!!! -.-' So....remember and DO try to keep your promise okay? Uncle Jason knows how to get to my house...so I don't mind if you guys find one night and drop by my house to drag me out go yumcha ^^ (No need to worry about my mum...she's less strict on curfew stuffs...and I'm allowed for night outings...especially where there's someone with the name FOO SZE-EN!!! =p)

The good lecturers gone...

Haiz...1st is Dr. Roland...our last PBL facilitator...and the best....now its Dr. Mehboob Khan...*sobz* But I wouldn't blame them...who wouldn't go for a better offer...like Dr. MK...he's being promoted as a professor in MAHSA College while if he continues to stick here...he'll still be just an associate professor...but...really do miss him le....he really taught me lots of stuffs...and taught me to learn alot...Dr. Roland too who went to Uniten...he's the one who started us to REALLY brainstorm during PBL..which always lead us to headaches whenever we finished our PBL last sem...which's a good sign...where we always have to crack our head + brain to answer his questions....Awww...I'm sooooo gonna miss them~~

AMCCO glory ^^

Hmm...what should I say...CONGRATULATIONS to AMCCO for bringing glory again!! They participated in 21st Century Chinese Orchestra Festival (二十一世纪国际华乐节) which I've participated in it myself when I was back in..err....form 4..?? Anyway...this really surprised me...not that I looked down on them...but seriously their attitude really doubted me when what I saw the very last time I went back to coach them...and ITS their attitude that made me swore never to go back to my alma mater and teach them no matter how they asked me to...I detest the teacher advisor...I detest the headmistress...however I reaaaalllly missed the times me and my friends and juniors and seniors had in CO...also missed Mr Lim, the coach..and surprisingly Ms Tai...haha..unexpectedly..but really do...especially when we've this really sux teacher advisor =p And CO really brings me lots...and I really do mean LOTS of sweet and bitter memories...and not to mention also let me get to know more friends from schools all over the countries...AWwwww.....why didn't UCSI have a CO...?? I seriously wanna organise a CO here...but don't think it'll get any response la...who else would wanna learn the traditional culture of Chinese nowadays eh...?? Haiz...think I better give up that idea...dun think I'll have the time either..2nd sem now is getting hectic...we're learning more stuffs...more into it...and more practical later....which I prefer practical than theories (who wouldn't anyway...?? =p)

Too bad I didn't get to attend the competition even though its held in Genting...which's VERY near from my place here...almost 30mins of bus ride...but the time the competition was held I was back in Ipoh plus in between is my mum's bday...I so so so so miss CO activities~~

My 20th Birthday =)

FINALLY~~~ as Huey Leng and Zhu Whee had said...its my 20th bday!! Haha...why..?? Coz I've been cocky for very long already since they're all 20 already while its still not my bday..till today...and its the 1st bday I had for these 20years that I didn't get to have it back at home...and instead I'm STUCK back here in KL...sobz...coz its also the 1st day of my 2nd sem here in UCSI...and without realising it...time really flies...there goes one semester....5 more months to my 1st professional exam that determines whether I can continue with 2nd year...anyway...back to my BIG day...I've loads of friends wishing me..which I really thank all of you...esp my best-est friend Ernie who sms-ed AND also called just now, ji muis like Xinyu and Huishan and Ah Ong and Huey Leng and Pheak Zern whose far away in Hong Kong and purposely go on9 to wish me ^^ not to mention also some great buddies like Zoo V, Vee Shin, Ah Chaw from India, kai gor Wei Yao from Germany, kai gor Wei Yang, kai jie Wei Theng, Wei Loong, Yew Ming, Pin Jun, Jia Ji, Heing who called from UK and a whole lot more which I really really appreciate it =D Oh...and also my coursemates...whoaaa...they're the one who surprised me...I really didn't expected that coz I thought only a few of those who always go onto Facebook that knew about my bday...but what they did really MADE ME BLUSH!!! Awww~~~~ Today before our PBL starts...they just gathered around outside of our small, pathetically tiny room and the whole of them just sang Happy Birthday song to me =D No presents or any celebration which I really don't care...its really the thought that counts..and that really melts my heart~~ I also need to thank Ernie, Xinyu, HuiShan and Zhu Whee who hung out together with me (except HuiShan coz she had her own plans) on Fri...and we really had a memorable day...LOL...thanks for the necklace from Ernie way from Australia, necklace also from XinYu and HuiShan and also the two cds from UNCLE Zoo V =P But most I've to thank is my family who celebrated my bday earlier before I came back to KL on last Sat...mum made a fabulous cheese cake..and we invited my aunt to my house....where we ate the cake, ate fried mee that we "da bao" while drinking chinese tea...niceeeee~ Aww......I SOoooooo miss home...but never mind...next Sat I'm going home again...haha...for 2weeks of holidays of Xmas and New Year ^^ Come to end this...I would love to thank everyone again for remembering and wishing me bday~~~

What?!? Now my OWN sister thinks that I have a boyfriend....GREAAAT!!! And why does she suddenly thinks so? Coz HEING CALLED!!!! Omigosh~~~ I was studying while listening to the radio using my handphone...while waiting for my dear sis to leave my com to me...then suddenly my hp rang...I looked at the screen with a surprised look...coz there's no number indicated on the screen...anyway...I just pick it up thinking maybe its Ernie calling from somewhere...and that someone on the other end of the line seemed to have difficulty listening to me while I have the same situation here...and when finally I heard her voice...I was like....HUH?!? Is it really her..?? She's in Scotland leh!! THen when she asked me if I know who's she...I KNEW it's her...and so we chatted...for about 5-10mins....mentioned about Ernie too...and we've promised to keep in touch....on the phone....basically is she calling me up la...OK...come to the main point...when I walked back into my room...I told my sister that my friend called up from Scotland...she said like..."WHOAAA...who's ur friend so rich to call from soooo far...he wanna pikat u is it?" And I was like.."huh?? My friend's a girl la...." And she keep on asking me who's she...so I told her the truth...my 2yrs older senior...but not in chinese orchestra...and we were QUITE close...not TOO close though..so I was also wondering why did she called me...and when she asked me what's her name...I was getting pissed off...I mean...its my privacy and she's my friend....why would you wanna know...its not like you know every friend of mine...so I jz told her off saying: You wouldn't know her ger la...." Then she came up with her own conclusion that I have a boyfriend and thats why I was being secretive -.-" What the..............

Bro's convocation

Bro's convocation went on real well...only that we're always rushing for time coz our hotel's around 30mins from Putrajaya International Convention Centre where my bro's convocation is held...but...finally...he HAD his convocation and that's a relief for everyone of us =)

Oh oh...we had lunch that day after my parents picked me up on Friday at Midvalley's Little Vietnam...Vietnamese cuisine which my bro havent eaten before...and trust me...everyone seriously loved that when they've 1st eaten it ^^ Anyway..after lunch...went to Jigsaw Puzzle World...the place I fell in love since the 1st time I went into the store few years back...the only store besides Pet World la...lol...and got my 2nd bday present ==> a jigsaw puzzle!! =D I don't care if anyone thinks I'm still a kiddo for wanting a jigsaw puzzle...but I really miss my kiddo time where I seldom get to play with a jigsaw puzzle where dad seldom buys for us...he always get us books or cds for our presents...which we cant blame him for that..hehehe....anyway...this jigsaw puzzle will gonna end for years...its a 2000-piece jigsaw puzzle...and also its the tiniest pieces of puzzle in the world...hahaha...but the picture's nice...give people a calm and relaxing feeling...and picture of that puzzle will have to wait...coz it's back in Ipoh now....asked my parents to take back instead so I can start on it when I'm back in Ipoh for my mid-term break ^^

Late at night

Ahh....I so so so love chinese tea....thanks to my dad he bought me chinese green tea (in sachets) and the BIG packet of Ipoh Town White Coffee and the packet of Milo that I bought myself when I passed by the 7-Eleven outside my uni few months back....these really accompany me during my late night of studying...I just cant resist not drinking hot drinks at late late nights...cant drink coffee though late at night...else it'll be a sleepless night...I already have too much experience of that 0.O

Oohh...forgotten to mention...without knowing myself...this IS my no. 200 post...whoaaa...imagine that I've blogged sooooo much already...looking back at my posts...its no wonder..I started my 1st blog post back in Form5....bitter memories during that year when I broke up with my 1st ever bf...but those are memories already...and so now I look forward to my Mr. Right (IF there is..lolz....) Still prefer to be single though while looking around..hehehe =p Too bad believes me though that I wont be looking for anyone for these few studying years...sigh...OK....seriously...I'll let you guys know when THE day comes...you guys just need to have more patience ^^ I give my blessings to those who have found their Mr. Right...Ern, XinYu, Leng and Ong...I'm soooo happy for you guys le~~~ (Uh oh...sounds like I'm the only one who's single =S) But who bothers....hahaha...I LOVE being single...and that makes me S-P-E-C-I-A-L...ngek ngek ngek =p

Lovely weekend ^^

Woohoo~~~dad and mum and bro and sis coming to get me tomorrow!!! Finally can free myself from this hostel room of mine...I'm gonna get suffocated by the tons of kg of books...gonna get suffocated by facing my computer everyday (tried not to everyday too =p) and the daily routine of study...study...study!!! Haiz.....oh well....at least I still have these few days to spend with my family...going to stay at Sunway Pyramid tomorrow night....going to spend every single minute with my family...and going to attend my bro's convocation at Putrajaya Convention Centre...YAY~~~ ^^


Counting down to tomorrow morning when my parents come pick me up after they're done with my bro's rehearsal and we'll be going off for lunch somewhere AND to pick up the flowers me and my sis had booked for my bro...OKla....although those flowers really scraped my wallet....5 stalks of sunflowers and that costs me 80 bucks!!! Not to mention my dear sis who's almost bankrupt already...so she's still owing me the money...while I've to scrape the money from my bank account...NOW who's getting poorer....man....I still have 4 and a half years to go and that's my pocket money leh -.-' AND I'm certainly getting poorer after we've bought mum's bday present...there goes $72 from my wallet already....*sobz*


p.s I really need to save up the money on food...I spend too much for my 1st sem now...darn!

Ok...for those who always said that they haven't seen my brother before even though knowing me for so long...that's my bro standing behind my parents in the 2nd picture....aww....he's not smiling....so cant see the resemblance between me, him and my sis...lolz....These pictures were taken when we were holiday-ing on Fraser's Hill...and its also to celebrate dad's bday...and that cake was made by mum...imagine that...we carried that cake way from home up to there...haha...we take turns to put on our laps...but YUMMY chesse cake ^^

27days to my 20th bday....finally....and unavoidable...i'm TWENTY!!! Old-nya......but seriously no one would believe so I guess....hahaha....even my roommate doesn't know that I'm 2years older than her if not for me telling her so....Okok...cut the crap....I've been wanting a cap for many years already....and since my sis asked...so told her what I wanted...and poof~~!! She bought me one....haha...bought it at The Mines...walked a few stores already and finally set my eyes on this one...its plain and simple....and its easy-to-wash kind of material....ok...I'm satisfied with it now....lolz...and I LOVE it!!!
